That reminded me of the far-off days when music publishers used to sell individual copies of anthems,
with their list of other anthems on the back, giving short title, composer and price.
I still have a box full of these publications and pulled one out. There I find such gems as:
Behold and see Palestrina 5d.
Cheap at the price, really.
Some composers were more highly regarded than others:
Holy, holy Handel 2½d
though even the best can get stuck at times:
Fixed in his Handel 4½d
Some kind offers:
Come ye disconsolate Dudley Buck 1d
Make me a clean Barnaby 2d
but others seem more dubious:
Why do the heathen Dicks 3d
Come fancy gay F.A. Challinor 3d
But the one title I could never resist:
The Lord gave Stainer 2d.
